Being midweek the open mic is as much about conversation (you can hear yourself think) and chilling out as it is about performance and entertainment. That isn't to say its not sensational, every week there's a 'zone' happening of some description and its 'real'. Much of the material performed is written by the performers and there's many a spontaneous getting together this creates a specific atmosphere beyond entertainment. There's a wide variety of performers and abilities which combined with a diverse crowd makes for an excellent evening.

If your're thinking of playing at Open Mic Night, and its your first time, you may not be familiar with the behind the scenes bit., check out the 'rules' page too. Note that these aren't really 'rules' as such, but rather 'guidelines' to ensure the smooth running of each wednesday night. As the night will be webcammed, we need as few mishaps as possible.

Either drop in before 8pm and let Bob know that you want to play, what instrument you play (if applicable), and he should give you a time.

You can reach Bob on this number: 07761 780 359. Phone or text him on the Wednesday that you want to play, between 12pm and 7pm.

Alternatively, mail Bob on mailing@bobcairns.co.uk.

If you have any special requirements, please make us aware of them, well in advance of the start of the night. Inform Pete the soundman or Bob, or even one of the bar staff. Like the evening itself the organising of the stage is chilled. That is to say Bob spontaneously organises a running order taking into account the individual preferences of the performers, mixes the styles and ability whenever possible to enhance variety and if possible fit in late comers and spontaneous get togethers, none of which can be done in advance, also keeping Pete the soundman informed of performers requirements and last minute requests, if possible. Bearing that in mind Bob does his best to get it right every week and really appreciates the help performers give to his occasional last minute requests to 'go on next' because blah blah!

Bob says Its all really organic with a life of its own that just needs to be allowed to breath. Therefore you have freedom and you're free to shine and connect or be a pain and make a fool of yourself. The key words are sincerity respect and humour and sometimes you just got to laugh. So to avoid going any further his own backside, chill out, relax, its cultural, social and intoxicating, nudge, nudge.
